Thomas L. McLain, 43, of Amboy; 2:55 p.m. Thursday; serving sentence – driving with a revoked license; taken to Lee County Jail.

Mark J. Sanchez, 49, of Shabbona; 2:29 p.m. Thursday; warrant – order of commitment; given notice to appear in court.

Lee M. Marion, 23, of Chicago; 11 a.m. Wednesday; warrant – unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, unlawful possession of a controlled substance; taken to Lee County Jail.

Ogle County Sheriff

Kyle Eklund, 34, of Rockford; Thursday in Oregon; driving under the influence, petition to revoke; posted $1,061 bond.

Robert Diaz, 23, of Rockford; Thursday in Winnebago County; warrant for failure to appear on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia; given notice to appear in court.

Sterling Police

Ronald W. Roath, 30, of Sterling; 12:54 a.m. Thursday at Locust and 11th streets; operating an uninsured motor vehicle, expired driver’s license; given notice to appear in court.

Troy E. Powell, 44, of Sterling; 12:13 p.m. Thursday at Sterling Police Department; Whiteside County warrant for no insurance; posted $300.

Brittany D. Witherow, 27, of Sterling; 8:25 p.m. Thursday at East Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue; Lee County warrant for contempt of court on a charge operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, no headlights, expired registration; posted $500. Arrested at the same time was Jose G. Saenz, 24, of Sterling; Ogle County warrant for driving with a suspended, revoked license; taken to Whiteside County Jail.

Brandon M. Wiliamson, 18, of Sterling; 11:34 p.m. Thursday at First Avenue and East Second Street, Rock Falls; disobeying a stop sign; posted driver’s license.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
