I am running for re-election to Whiteside County Board in District 2 (Coloma, Montmorency, Hume, Hahnaman, Tampico, Lyndon and Hopkins townships). I have been on the board for 13 years and have served on the judicial and financial committees. Presently, I’m the chairwoman for the health and social services committee.
I worked 20 years for the state of Illinois as supervisor at the Job Service and Unemployment office and 5 years for the Department of Natural Resources. I’m retired and attend St. Andrew’s Church. I’m married and have five children.
I’m an active volunteer at the American Red Cross as chairwoman for the Disaster Assistance team that responds to local disaster and fire calls. I’ve been to Louisiana for Hurricane Katrina, West Virginia in July and Hattiesburg, Miss., for Hurricane Isaac. I’m on the Red Cross board and am past chairwoman.
I serve on the Federally Qualified Health Clinic Council and on the Whiteside County Transportation Board. I’ve lived in Whiteside County and had a Rock Falls address for 60-plus years. I feel I know the residents of our county.
An important goal for the county is keeping a balanced budget, which won’t happen in 2013 because of the Sheley trial. Another goal of mine is to continue to get more county, city, township and state organizations to work together on a daily basis.
Wind farms have been a big challenge for our county. Recently, the board voted to give special use zoning for nine turbines. I believe two of those towers definitely must go to the village of Deer Grove for final permits.
We probably won’t see any construction activity until 2014, and maybe not then if the federal government does not extend the wind energy tax credits that are scheduled to expire this year on Dec. 31.
