Class to offer tips for holiday meal

OREGON – University of Illinois Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator Marilyn Csernus will help take the worry out of cooking Thanksgiving dinner.

She will give a workshop called “What Do I Do with This Turkey?” at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Ogle County Extension office, 421 W. Pines Road.

Csernus will share ideas about planning, purchasing, thawing and preparing a Thanksgiving turkey. Recipes will be available for participants to take home, and there will be a few to sample. The cost is $5.

The public is welcome.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
