BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Norvin Albert Brewer was born Dec. 24, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Ark., to Victor Albert Brewer and Clara Elizabeth (Robinson) Brewer. He was called from his time here on earth on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.
His childhood was spent in Arkansas. In 1951, he served in the Army. After being discharged in 1953, he married Donna Mae Ketter, whom he met in Tacoma, Wash. He often said that his first sermon was preached in 1954 in Conway, Ark. For the following years leading up to preaching school in 1970, he worked at various jobs as a machinist.
After graduation, he spent the next 40-plus years in ministry of the Gospel, in local congregations in Texas, Washington, Illinois and Kentucky. He loved God, and spent his life studying, learning, teaching and preaching about Jesus’ unconditional love and forgiveness. He spent many of those years giving of his time and energy to many different causes, the most recent being Life Care Ministries, a food bank for those in need. He had a lifelong love of horses and gardening. He spent many hours tending his garden and riding and training his horse, Cody.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna Ketter Brewer; his children, Wayne and Susan Brewer of Mabelvale, Ark., Wanise and J. Lemmons of Searcy, Ark., and Ralph and Geneva Brewer of Bowling Green; his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (including spouses), Sarah and T.J., Norah, Silas, Amelia and Joel Spradling of Bunker Hill, Ind., Jennifer and Chad, Justin, Anthony, and Lily Osborn and Amanda, Joe and Adison Morton, all of Searcy, Elise, Lee and Lucas McLemore of Corinth, Miss., Ashley, Steve, Jack and Addison DeVlieger of Nashville, Tenn., Juliane and Stan McCorkle of Hang Zhou, China, Andrew Lemmons of Searcy, Brian Brewer of New York City, Joanna Lemmons of Searcy, and Christine and James Durham, and Amy Cross Brewer, all of Bowling Green; and his sisters, Hazel Atterberry and Glenda Mabry; and brothers, Elmo Brewer and Vic Brewer, all of Conway.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lillian Stell; and his brother, Alvin Brewer.
His life was filled with love and laughter, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of coming into contact with him.
Services were Tuesday at Cone Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the funeral at 1 p.m., Thursday, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with L.V. Pfeifer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Potter Children’s Home, Bowling Green, or the American Cancer Society.
