I would like to take this opportunity to graciously commend the Dixon Police Department, its detectives, the state’s attorney’s office, Peter Buh, and all who assisted in the conviction of Byron Adams.

I know firsthand the countless hours and time spent away from family and friends to ensure justice for the Atherton family. I can only sympathize with the strong emotional component of this case and the tireless efforts of many to achieve a conviction.

On Oct. 9, when Byron Adams was found guilty of the murder of Margaret Atherton, you were her voice – the conduit for the story to be told and avenged. Sometimes, we as a community, become complacent and forget how fortunate we are to have a department and individuals who go to work every day to serve and protect to the betterment of our community and neighbors.
