Illinois anti-foreclosure workshop draws hundreds

SOUTH HOLLAND (AP) — More than 1,000 Illinois residents facing foreclosure have turned out for an event to help them keep their homes.
Gov. Pat Quinn met with some of them during Saturday's foreclosure prevention workshop in South Holland.
Quinn says "keeping people in their homes strengthens families, communities and our economy."
The governor launched the Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network, which has been holding workshops throughout the state. It is helping connect people with homeownership counselors and other resources.
It is also offering homeowners assistance so they don't fall victim to mortgage rescue scams.
The governor's office says thousands of people have received more than $52 million in mortgage payment assistance.
