Comets grind out victory over Panthers
Nothing pretty about it
ERIE – Newman wasn’t exactly pretty in pink Friday night, but was effective enough to grind out a win over Erie-Prophetstown.
With players and coaches from both teams sporting pink socks to support breast cancer awareness, the Comets scored the first 21 points of the second half to secure a 35-20 victory over the Panthers at Wayne Hein Field.
Newman (8-0) can claim an undisputed Big Rivers crown next week with a road win over Amboy. A win by the Clippers (7-1) would result in a shared title.
