Local roundup: Newman edges Steamers

Fillies, Missiles earn volleyball wins; Dukes soccer rolls

Rachel Hageman put down six kills, Aubree Schmitt five and Megan Rosengren four to lead Newman past Fulton 26-24, 27-25 in a Three Rivers Conference volleyball clash Thursday at Fulton.

Kayci Howell dished out 10 assists and Allison Shipman six for Newman (16-8, 9-3).

Fulton (8-13, 7-5) got eight kills from Kylie
Kennedy and four each from Rachael Beiermann, Chelsea Lesniewski and Morgan Wierema.
Beiermann also had team-highs of 11 assists and nine digs.

Morrison def. Bureau Valley 25-17, 25-19: The Fillies cruised to a sweep over the Storm in a Three Rivers match in Manlius.

Lindsey Hoffert had a team-high seven kills for Bureau Valley (8-14, 5-7), which also got 13 assists from Sydney Lebahn.

Riverdale def. Prophets-town 25-5, 25-16: The Rams routed the Prophets in a Three Rivers matchup at Port Byron.

Katlyn Shirley had eight digs and Karlie Stafford seven for Prophetstown (2-12, 2-9).

Milledgeville def. Polo 25-14, 25-11: Kendra Schave thumped 11 kills and Emily Geison added seven to lead the Missiles
past the Marcos in
NUIC East action at Milledgeville.

Haley McAuliffe distributed 20 assists for the Missiles, who also got five aces and four kills from Morgan Adolph.

Forreston def. AFC 25-16, 25-17: The Cardinals swept past the Raiders in an NUIC East tilt at Ashton.

Lexie Fore had five kills and Emily Mammen four for AFC (12-16, 4-7). Kayla Colwell contributed eight digs for the Raiders.

Stockton def. West Carroll 25-15, 25-11: The Blackhawks rolled past the Thunder in an NUIC West match at Stockton.

Boys soccer

Dixon 5, LaSalle-Peru 2: The Dukes broke things open late in a Northern Illinois Big 12 West match at A.C. Bowers Field.

After leading 3-1 at the half, Dixon (9-8-1, 4-5-1) saw its lead halved midway through the second half. But goals by Scott Heath and Thomas Clemens in the last 7 minutes put the game away.

Zac Harden, Matt Kerr and Brandon Bass also tallied for the Dukes, whose goalkeeper, Brandon Jagitsch, returned after recovering from a concussion to make five saves.
