William 'Bill' McGinnis
MOUNT MORRIS – William “Bill” McGinnis, 90, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at KSB Hospital in Dixon, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Dixon, the son of Oliver and Elizabeth (Spaulding) McGinnis. He attended Dixon High School. Bill enlisted in the Army in 1941, where he served in the Pacific Special Forces with Merrill’s Marauders. Bill married Marjorie Long on Feb. 13, 1945, in Oregon. He retired from E.D. Etnyre after 38 years. Bill loved golfing, reading, playing cards and watching sports on TV. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.
Honored and revered father to his three daughters, Kathy (Jack) Stigman of Rockford and Jan (Terry) Messer and Kim (Ed) Messer, both of Mount Morris; treasured by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Ray) Colombo, Jeff Stigman, Rob (Shelley) Messer, Todd (Kayla) Messer, Eric Messer and Matthew (Kate) Messer; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; grandson, Shaun Messer; three sisters: Honora, Mary and Monica; and two brothers, James and Everett.
A private memorial service for family will be at a future date. Finch Funeral Home in Mount Morris handled arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the VFW in Oregon.
