Serves citizens ‘with excellence’

I am a lifelong resident of Morrison, born in 1955 to Robert and Myra Ottens. I worked in a family-owned grocery business (Wilken’s Royal Blue) from age 16 until the business was sold around 1988.

I was hired on Jan. 6, 1984, as a secretary for the Whiteside County Probation Department. I moved to the circuit clerk’s office in August 1988 when I was hired by then-Circuit Clerk Jane Fransen.

When Mrs. Fransen retired and Sheila Schipper was elected, Sheila appointed me her chief deputy. Then Sheila retired in February 2011, and I was appointed circuit clerk by the Whiteside County Board.

My experience in the circuit clerk’s office allowed me to take over the position of circuit clerk without interruption to our office or the court system. I made it a point during my 24 years in the circuit clerk’s office to learn about every position in the office.

I believe the citizens of Whiteside County deserve a circuit clerk who is knowledgeable about the role and function of the office and who cares about the office and the people who work in it. I am that person.

I am looking at new technology to make our office more efficient and to help us share information and records with other offices and the public in a more timely fashion.

I believe in hard work, and if elected, I will continue to serve the citizens of Whiteside County with the excellence they deserve and expect.

Please vote for experience on Nov. 6. Thank you.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
