DIXON – The Dixon Fire Department has received a number of complaints about fires within the city limits so far this fall, fire Chief Tim Shipman said.

While recreational fires are allowed under city code, the burning of leaves, yard waste or garbage is not, he said.

He is urging residents to be especially cautious because it has been an “unusually dry year,” he said. They should avoid having fires when it is windy.

City code also allows fire and police officials to order a fire extinguished even if it meets the guidelines.
