John C. ‘Jack’ Grady

CHANA – John C. “Jack” Grady, 82, of Chana, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at his home. He was a paper salesman in Rockford and Chicago for more than 50 years, retiring in 1997; and a purebred sheep farmer in Chana for more than 20 years.

Jack was born April 5, 1930, in Oregon, the son of Floyd and Gwendolyn (Blocher) Grady. He was a 1948 graduate of Franklin Grove High School and a 1953 graduate of Manchester College. Jack was a veteran of the Marine Corps. He married Neva Hansen Engelkes on May 12, 1982, in Franklin Grove. Jack lived in the Ogle, Lee County area all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Neva Grady of Chana; son, Jim (Linda) Grady of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; daughter, Kim (Wayne) Bush of Apache Junction, Ariz.; stepson, Bruce (fiancee Lorna Headlee) Engelkes of Dixon; stepdaughters, Bonnie (Dennis) Echelbarger of Amboy, Barb (Randy) Shankel of Franklin Grove and Billie Jo (Doug) Heier of Ashton; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Judy Burke.

A celebration of life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Atlasta Park on South State Street in Franklin Grove. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon handled arrangements.
