DIXON – Daniel E. Miller, 100, of Dixon, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Heritage Square in Dixon. He retired from Dixon Public Schools as a janitor in 1977.

He was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Forreston, the son of Quincy and Candace (Leichliter) Miller. He was a World War II Army veteran. He married Daisy LeFevre on Dec. 15, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Bob) Rhodes of Dixon; a son, David (Cinda) Miller of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial of cremains will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, with military honors accorded by the Dixon combined veterans group. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Square, with the Rev. Janet Wittenmyer of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heritage Square or St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon handled arrangements.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
