‘Time for a change’ in state Senate

I was born and raised in Rock Island. After graduating from Alleman High School in 1966, I joined the U.S. Army, where I attended infantry officer candidate school.

At age 21, as a Green Beret, I was the youngest captain to command combat troops during the Vietnam War. For my service, I was awarded two silver stars, three purple hearts and five bronze stars.

Following my military service, I returned home and completed my education at Blackhawk College and Augustana College. Following graduation from Augustana, I spent more than 25 years as a special agent in the U.S. Secret Service, where I protected our nation’s presidents, visiting dignitaries, and our monetary system.

In 1989, I embarked on the greatest, and most fulfilling, challenge of my life – raising my three children as a single parent. I retired from the Secret Service in early 2001 and went to work for Ford Motor Co. as manager of its executive security operations.

Currently, I live in Moline with my lovely wife, Mary, and work as a private security consultant.

Years of mismanagement and poor representation have left our state broke and broken; it is time for a change of leadership in Springfield.

I’m running for the Illinois Senate because I will help lead our state back to prosperity by spending less, borrowing less, and taxing less. In so doing, we can improve economic growth, foster a stronger environment for job creation, and restore integrity to Illinois.

As your state senator, I will work to balance the budget not by taxing more, as my opponent and Gov. Quinn have done, but by spending less and improving the cost-effectiveness of state services.

I will support solutions that will put people in our area back to work. To this end, I will work to repeal the job killing 67 percent income tax increase placed on the families and job creators of this state.

Years of mismanagement by the ruling majority in Springfield have left Illinois deeply in debt, and it is time for a change in the Illinois Senate. I will offer the change we so desperately need, and I ask for your vote on Nov. 6.
