Saw safety topic Saturday in Fulton

FULTON – A free seminar on chain saw maintenance and safety and forest management will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hilltop Meadows Hunt Club, 7377 Long Road.

The Whiteside County Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring the meeting. Kevin Oetken and Dave Harrison will speak. Breakfast, doughnuts and lunch will be served. Reservations are requested.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
