STERLING – A Sterling High School student faces disciplinary action “up to or including expulsion,” during a special meeting Thursday of the school board, Superintendent Tad Everett said.
The board will have a hearing in closed session, then vote in open session. The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the high school library, 410 E. LeFevre Road.
The hearing is related to an incident that occurred earlier this month, Everett said. He declined to say what grade the student is in, or whether it is a boy or girl. He called that information “identifying” factors.
The board is considering discipline related to board policy 7.190 (3), Everett said.
That policy states that the district’s administration may discipline students for gross disobedience or misconduct, including, but not limited to “using, possessing, distributing, purchasing, soliciting to obtain, obtaining, attempting to sell, selling, or being under the influence of: any illegal drug or controlled substance; any anabolic steroid unless being administered in accordance with a prescription; any performance-enhancing substance on the Illinois High School Association’s most current banned substance list; any prescription drug when not prescribed for the student; certain inhalants; “look-alike” or counterfeit drugs; and drug paraphernalia.
