Hawks soccer beats Dukes

Ian Holley and Adam Weller scored goals for the Oregon soccer team in its 2-1 nonconference victory over Dixon in
Oregon.

Jake Adams assisted both goals for Oregon (16-3-2). Teammate Alec Ketter made nine saves for the Hawks.

Matt Kerr gave Dixon (6-10-1) a 1-0 lead off an assist by Zac Harden just 30 seconds into the match, and the Dukes led by the margin at the half.

Girls swimming

Wike highlights locals at St. Charles North Invite: Sterling’s Charli Wike placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 200 individual medley against stiff competition at the 13-team St. Charles North Invitational.

Wike’s times were 1:09.66 in the breaststroke and 2:17.91 in the 200 IM. The highest finish for the Byron co-op team, which includes Dixon, were 20th-place efforts in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Volleyball

Faith wins NICC tourney: The Falcons won a pair of two-set matches after a first-round bye in Sycamore, beating Fulton Unity 25-16, 25-19 in the semifinals and Morningstar Academy 25-21, 25-18 for the conference title.

Tressa Schuler was named conference player of the year, and she had 33 digs, 15 kills, three blocks and three aces in the tournament. Krista Beach added 27 digs, eight kills and two aces for Faith Christian (23-2), and Amanda Smith chipped in 19 digs, eight kills, five blocks and four aces.

Smith was a first-team all-conference selection, while Beach and Anabeth Rozanas were second-teamers.

The Falcons will return to Sycamore on Thursday for the 3-day, 20-team ACSI state tournament.

Men’s cross country

Sauk ninth at St. Ambrose: The Skyhawks finished with 369 points in a nine-team meet at St. Ambrose. 

Ryan Johnson finished 60th in a time of 30 minutes, 45 seconds. Ben Catton was 69th in 31:53. 

Women’s cross country

Anderson leads Skyhawks: Sauk Valley finished 10th at the St. Ambrose Invite with 263 points. Augustana won with 31. 

Leading they way for Sauk Valley was Shawn Anderson in 72nd with a time of 22 minutes, 15 seconds. Maryssa Nusbaum followed her in 76th (22:34).

Women’s volleyball

Sauk Valley def. Clinton 25-15, 25-10, 25-18: The Skyhawks improved to 17-9 for the season with a road win in Clinton. 

Randi Wilken had 8 kills for Sauk. Tyler Fuller, a Morrison graduate, added seven kills, while Dixon’s Karly Koch had 13 assists and Nicole Shaffer had nine digs.
