To coin an old phrase, Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday I was in the process of trying to pin down sponsors and dates to get the first Rock River tournament series off the ground.
I was running from establishment to establishment, trying to assure people the series would be worth their time and their money. Well, here we are some 10 months later, and the season has got to be considered a very nice success.
Outside of the extremely low water affecting turnouts the second half of the summer, things have gone very, very well.
Overall, we hit our 20-boat-per-tournament average, which was a goal from the beginning. Hard telling what that number could have been with normal water in the bone-dry Rock. Our largest tournament was 31 boats, an awesome turnout for a tournament here and a great sign of things to come in 2013.
Now pay attention here, y'all. On Sunday, right here in good old Rock Falls, we will be holding our final event of the year, and we would love to have you come out and show us some love.
The weigh-in will be at Long Shot Sports Bar & Grill on West Route 30 in Rock Falls from 3 until we're done that night. The fine folks at Long Shot will lay out an awesome taco bar. So bring the kids, and maybe we'll turn some of them into future catmen and women.
If you happen to be interested in fishing this event, it is open to anyone. The kicker is that it is a 1,000 event, meaning that on top of the normal payouts, there is another grand thrown in by our fine sponsor.
Registration will be held from 5:30-6:30 a.m. inside Long Shot, where we will be gorging on cinnamon rolls and breakfast burritos. Entry is 75 bucks, and fishing runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with all fishermen needing to be in line by 4 for weigh-in.
So dust off the old poles, and get out on the river Sunday. Who knows what might happen? Sunday evening could find you and a partner more than a thousand dollars richer. Sound good?
Anyway, thank you to all the fishermen, sponsors and spectators at our events this year. It was very rewarding and, for a first-year series, I'd say we are well on our way to having an annual series that benefits both anglers and sponsors. And, hey, at the same time, we've promoted our area and our sport as something others would want to get involved in.
