James Lewis Snyder

DIXON – James Lewis Snyder, 77, of Dixon, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Dixon.

He retired as a teacher from the Dixon Public Schools and then owned and operated Expert Professional Painting in Dixon.

James was born March 21, 1935, in Plymouth, Ind., the son of Paul T. and Burnice (Crabb) Snyder. He married Joyce (Miller) Scudder on July 14, 1967, in Dixon. James graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and served in the United States Army. He attended Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, and was a member of Dixon Unit School District 170.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Snyder of Dixon; three sons, Gary (Patty) Scudder, Matthew Scudder, both of Dixon, and Jim (Lisa) Snyder of Newark, Ill.; three daughters, Kathleen (Tom) Vitek of Stillwater, Okla., Laurie Scudder of Rockford, Paula (Michael) Reed of St. Charles; two sisters, Barbara (Pete) Pederson of Culver, Ind., Joanna (Virgil) McCann of Plymouth, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Jr., Alan, and Bill Snyder.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor of Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
