STERLING – Dentist Shailee Patel has bought the practice formerly owned by William Wegner and named it A Brush With Dentistry.

Patel, 31, bought the practice at 2308 E. Lincolnway, Suite D, about 3 months ago. She opened for business July 17. She is accepting new patients.

The 1999 Sterling High School graduate was practicing in Freeport.

She plans to offer a toothbrush trade-in starting about Oct. 15. For one month, she will offer a free toothbrush to those who come in and provide their old toothbrush, their name and email address for a newsletter she plans to start, she said.

“There’s a tendency to use a toothbrush until it’s not a toothbrush any more,” she said.
She also plans to update the practice with digital X-rays next year, she said.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every other Wednesday.

STERLING – Sugar Mama’s How Sweet It Is! bakery, 410 Locust St., closed effective Sept. 22, a sign on the door says.

“Thank you for your patronage & the memories,” it read.

“We’ve enjoyed being here but it’s time to move on,” the phone message said.

Owner Jeanne Koeppen did not return calls seeking comment.

Phone retailer opens on north end of Dixon

DIXON – One Stop Wireless takes the time to teach its customers how to use their new services, the new store’s manager said.

The store, at 1331 N. Galena Ave., sells Verizon and DirectTV products as well as Internet and home phone services, manager Michael Baker said.

It’s owned by Frank Vivas of Rockford.

“We can pretty much cut deals where [the official Verizon store] can’t,” Baker said.
A grand opening is being planned, complete with a live band, food and maybe a jumping castle, he said.

Corner Treasures and Treats co-owner Anne Davis said Tuesday that she and her husband, John Davis, plan to close their shop, which has been open 3 years, because of a lack of business in a slow economy.

Why the need for middleman?

The other day, we ran a story about the Dixon Tourism Board's website, which is hard to navigate and missing key information, particularly about the Petunia Festival. Are we wasting our time examining local tourism websites?
