School adds new employees

FULTON – Unity Christian School recently hired five teachers.

The two full-time and three part-time employees are Jessica Hartman, Kristen Counihan, Rhonda Wade, Brenda Oosterhouse and Nicole Kotman.

Hartman, in her second year of teaching, is the first Unity Christian High School graduate (Class of 2006) to become a teacher at the school. She is teaching the combined fifth- and sixth-grade class in the elementary building.

Counihan, who began her teaching career in the Dixon area, is the new junior high language arts teacher. She also is working in the Academic Support Center.

Wade is the new part-time academic support specialist and resource teacher. She has worked for several years in the area of special education, but has taken this part-time post to allow for more time with her family.

The other part-time teachers, Oosterhouse and Kotman, make up the high school music department.

Oosterhouse is a familiar face at Unity and was previously Unity’s choral accompanist. She now is directing both junior high and high school choirs. Kotman, has accepted the position of the fifth- through 12th-grade band director.

Dick Ritzema, principal for 12 years, took a new position in Pease, Former Academic Support Specialist teacher Chris Pluister is the new principal. Pluister has taught at Unity since 2007.
