‘Efficiency, courtesy, professionalism’

Published: Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 1:15 a.m. CDT

I am a lifelong resident of Morrison, born in 1962. I graduated from Morrison High School in 1980. After graduation, I was briefly employed by Smith Bank in Morrison as a teller.

In April 1981, I was hired by then-Whiteside County Recorder Marvin J. VanZuiden as a deputy, eventually becoming chief deputy recorder.

In November 1996, I was elected to my first term as Whiteside County recorder and have continuously served Whiteside County since then as its recorder.

As the recorder, I am proud to have implemented programs that have increased the security and convenience of those individuals utilizing our services, one being Property Fraud Alert, the other being Laredo Tapestry.

Property Fraud Alert allows property owners to sign up for notifications in the event their name appears on any document recorded in our office. Once a property owner’s name has been identified on a document, the property owner is notified by telephone or email.

Laredo Tapestry allows customers to conduct online property searches for a subscriber fee, saving those customers the time and cost of actually having to come to the recorder’s office.

I am always aware of the fiscal responsibilities entrusted to me by the voters and have maintained expenses below my authorized budget every year in office.

I have, through attrition, reduced payroll costs and increased efficiency in my office since my election. I am pleased to point out that my staff is knowledgeable and courteous in the provision services to property owners.

And through all of this, I have been proud to continue to provide recording and certified copies of Forms DD214 for our veterans.

As a professional in my field, I maintain my knowledge of the laws and regulations of real estate recording through my membership in the University of Illinois Certified County Official Program. I also served as the Zone 4 president of the Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders.

If re-elected, I plan to continue my service to Whiteside County, maintaining the same high level of efficiency, courtesy and professionalism that has been universally recognized and acknowledged by professionals and property owners who visit the office of recorder.
