Vote Joyce for state’s attorney

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

Many of you know us as the retired sheriff and retired circuit clerk of Whiteside County. You also know we’re Republicans and typically support Republican candidates.

Gary Spencer is retiring as Whiteside County state’s attorney, and two candidates are vying for his position. We’ve had many opportunities to work with both candidates, observing their abilities and professionalism in and out of the courtroom.

Most of you would expect we’re supporting the Republican candidate.

However, there are times we all must put party affiliation aside and support the more qualified candidate to fill this important position. That is why we’re taking the unusual step of supporting the Democratic candidate, Trish Joyce.

We feel that Trish is the more experienced and skilled candidate. She spent 12 years as assistant state’s attorney in Whiteside County and 1 year in Lee County.

She has handled every type of criminal case, from traffic and misdemeanor cases to juvenile matters and felonies.

She has tried cases before judges and juries and upon appeal, and has provided civil advice to the county board.

In addition to demonstrating exceptional trial skills, the state’s attorney serves as the chief administrator of the county’s “law firm.” Trish is an accomplished trial attorney. She has run a successful law practice for the past 15 years and has supervised personnel in the state’s attorney’s office and private sector.

Regardless of the political party you identify with, please join us in voting for the more qualified and competent candidate for this position, Trish Joyce.

Note to readers – Roger Schipper is a retired Whiteside County sheriff, and Sheila Schipper is a retired Whiteside County circuit clerk.
