Martin E. ‘Marty’ Powers

AMBOY – Martin E. “Marty” Powers, 55, of Amboy, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Amboy Rehab and Nursing Center. He had worked several jobs before becoming a self-employed painter.

He was born Sept. 20, 1957, in Amboy, the son of James and Elaine (Stephenitch) Powers. Marty graduated from Amboy High School, class of 1975. He enjoyed golfing and attending his nieces’ and nephews’ activities. Marty was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

Survivors include his father; sisters, Diane (Terry Wolber) Powers and Judith (Sam) Jones, both of Amboy, Linda (Eli) Riley of Franklin Grove, and Ann (Derrek) Barlow of Sublette; one brother, Dean (Mandy) Powers of Amboy; and several nieces and nephews, Kaylee Jo Jones, Tyson Powers, Mallory Powers, Cameron Riley, Evan Riley, Ashton Riley, Brandon Barlow, Carley Barlow, Brittany Barlow and Carson Barlow.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 7 p.m., today at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. The family requests casual attire for the visitation, with Amboy Clipper or Notre Dame Fighting Irish clothing optional. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, with Monsignor Thomas Bales, pastor, officiating. 

Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass, with burial of cremains at a later date at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
