Donations sought for benefit for toddler’s family

The benefit will be held Nov. 3 at Dixon Elks Page Park Farm, 7883 S. Lowell Park Road.

Myles Halfacre, who turns 2 on Nov. 13, is the son of Derion and Jana Halfacre and has a 6-year-old sister, Madisyn.

Myles was born with a cleft palate, and was diagnosed with a seizure disorder, a form of cerebral palsy, and dystonia, a muscle condition causing him severe pain.

He recently returned home from Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and is on a special diet requiring formula given through a feeding tube in his abdomen.

“The formula is $600-plus a month. His medications went up, too,” said Mona Ashford of Dixon, Myles’ great-aunt.

Myles gets botox shots periodically to combat the dystonia. The Halfacres have some insurance, but have been turned down for Social Security disability and other types of help.

Jana Halfacre is undergoing treatment for a cyst on the common bile duct, which will become cancerous if not removed.

The bags tournament will start about 1 p.m. Registration is $40 per team, with cash payouts for first and second place. The third-place team members will get their fees back.

The benefit will start at 2 p.m. There will be music, food, live and silent auctions and a 50/50 drawing. T-shirts will be sold for $15 each.

Admission is $15 for ages 11 and older.
