DIXON – Raynor and its employees helped the United Way of Lee County kick off its 55th fundraising campaign with a donation Sept. 29. About $33,000 came from Raynor employees and $5,000 came from a corporate gift.

Midland States Bank also announced a $10,000 gift from its employees and corporate. A bonus gift of $1,500 came from volunteers of the Mumford & Sons concert.

The donations were announced at the United Way kickoff at the Town Square Centre parking lot during the Dixon Main Street Scarecrow Festival. The event also featured a chili cook-off, bags tournament, dunk tank, kids’ activities and entertainment.

This year’s goal is $440,000 to be allocated to 28 nonprofit agencies serving Lee County. The campaign, which has now reached 11 percent of its goal, runs through Nov. 9.

More than 88 percent of each donation goes directly to agencies, and 99 percent of all funding stays in Lee County. Contributions can be made online at unitedwayofleecounty.org or mailed to United Way of Lee County, P.O. Box 382, Dixon, IL 61021.
