MORRISON – Police are advising residents about fall yard waste rules.

Residents may burn landscape waste such as dry leaves, untreated wood and branches less than 2 inches in diameter. They cannot burn noxious weeds, grass clippings, or any other kind of garbage, waste or refuse.

Burning may be done between 3 p.m. and sunset Tuesdays and Thursdays, or from 9 a.m. to sunset Saturdays. Waste cannot be burned within 6 feet of any street or alley or create a visibility hazard, and the fire must be attended until it is out.

Yard waste cannot be deposited on any street, alley, ditch or public grounds, or on another’s property. Fines are $25 to $500 for each day a violation occurs.

Otherwise, the city will collect yard waste Mondays and Fridays during October and November. It must not be mixed with household refuse, and must be placed curbside in approved containers, or tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet and no heavier than 50 pounds.

Call City Hall, 815-772-7657, for more information.
