Increase knowledge about disabilities

DIXON – A free disability awareness program will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the east mall of Sauk Valley Community College, 173 state Route 2.

Interactive stations will feature daily barriers faced by people with disabilities.

After visiting all of the stations, participants will be entered into a raffle.

Representatives of the state Department of Human Services Division of Rehabilitation Services, Northwestern Illinois Center for Independent Living, Serve Illinois, the Whiteside County Health Department and campus organizations will be on hand.

Information will be offered about disabilities and how the public can get involved in raising awareness.

Staff from DRS and NICIL will have a panel at 1:30 p.m. in Room 1K4 about barriers in employment, school and daily life.

Call Ana Salgado, SVCC student activities coordinator, at 815-835-6432 for more information.
