Crundwell halter bag sold in Dixon now on eBay
DIXON – At least one auction goer is cashing in.
A faded Harris halter bag once held a diamond-encrusted show halter, but when Dawn Strohecker of Malta bought the halter for $2,700 at the auction last week, she decided to put the bag on eBay, according to previous coverage and the eBay entry.
The bag’s previous owner is now somewhat notorious.
Former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell made national and even international headlines when the U.S. Attorney’s Office charged her with federal wire fraud in connection with what prosecutors say is the misappropriation of $53 million in city funds, the largest municipal fraud in U.S. history.
As of 7 p.m. Monday, with one day left on the online auction, the bag had garnered 26 bids with a high bid of $64.63.
