Chess clubs sponsoring tourney in Sterling
STERLING – The Sauk Valley Chess Club of Illinois and the Reflections Chess Club from Clinton, Iowa, will present the first Iowa/Illinois Chess Club Tournament Saturday at Sterling High School Commons, 1608 Fourth Ave.
The competition is free to 12-graders and younger. Adults can play for $5. Registration will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m., with the first round beginning at 10 a.m. Play will continue throughout the day, with awards presented about 5 p.m.
There will be a four-round team tournament, with four players per team. Teams may have alternates if there are extra players. There will be an open section for extra players, or players who would like to play individually.
