Same name, wrong person
On Sept. 21, I was reading the paper and noticed my name and age under the arrest column. What is this? Warrant: “Order of commitment.” I don’t even know what that is.
I went to the Dixon Police, and he said it wasn’t them who issued the warrant. He said, check with the Lee County sheriff. So I went there, and they said that the Telegraph gets its information from the jail. She suggested I go to the jail and talk to them.
I walked up Third Street and went to the jail section, embarrassed to walk through those doors. I talked to a corrections officer and told him why I was there at the jail; they were given my name and my age. They asked me whether I knew where the other Rita Thompson worked. I said “yes” and told them. Well, sure enough, it’s her. Her middle initial is not “E,” and she is not “64.” They said they will check this out.
