Richard C. Steder

ROCK FALLS — Richard C. Steder, 64, of Rock Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.

He was born Oct. 3, 1947, in Dixon, the son of Fred and Velma M. (Switzer) Steder. He married Kathleen Hancock on March 7, 1970, in Dixon.

Richard worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. for 28 years in the East Plant, until their closure. He then worked at Edelmann’s in Dixon for about 5 years. He was a member of First Open Bible Church in Rock Falls. He was an avid runner, loved his music and was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Richard was devoted to his family and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen; his children, Timothy Steder of Dixon, Jeff (Tanya) Steder of Sterling, Joe (Erin) Steder of Georgetown, Ky., and Katie Steder of Sterling; his grandchildren, Brendan, Drue, Alex and Ethan; his mother of Dixon; his brothers: Bob Steder of Dixon, Steve Steder of DeKalb and Kevin Steder of Yorkville; and his sister, Mary Kay (Gary) Sutton of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at First Open Bible Church. The funeral will follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Les Funderberg officiating. Arrangements were handled by McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory.

Memorials may be made to the church.
