Pumpkin Dash

STERLING – The 21st annual Great Pumpkin Dash Cross Country Festival will be Saturday at Hoover Park, 3807 Woodlawn Road. Racers through age 14 will be grouped by age and run dashes.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and continues throughout the morning. The winner of each heat wins a large pumpkin; the first 1,600 finishers get a smaller gourd. Runners also will get a free lunch and a bag of Halloween goodies.

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
