The Newman Comets ran to third place Saturday at the Roger Schmidt Invitational in Winnebago, led by a 10-11 finish by Micah Trancoso and Bryson Reyes.
Trancoso covered the 3.1-mile course in 15:18.97, and Reyes was right behind in 15:20. The Comets scored 79 points as a team. Jefferson won the nine-team meet (56 points), with Winnebago placing second (65). Oregon placed eighth with 195.
Rock Falls 3rd in Aurora: Brandt Cole placed third individually to lead the Rockets in the 11-team Aurora Central Catholic Invite at Oakhurst Forest Preserve.
Cole covered the 3-mile course in 15:29, 28 seconds behind winner Luke Hill of Marquette (15:01).
Rock Falls scored 90 points. St. Francis won with 69 points, three better than host Aurora Central Catholic.
Amboy 6th at Kewanee: The Clippers scored 141 points in the 14-team Boiler Invitational, and took sixth out of the nine schools with full teams.
Ben Hosto was 22nd (18:49.1) and Skylar Wheeler was 23rd (18:52.5) to lead Amboy. Hall won the team title with 53 points.
BV 12th at St. Joe-Ogden: The Storm scored 362 points at the 26-team Spartan Classic, led by Ryan Taylor’s 34th-place finish. Taylor ran the
3 miles in 16:24.479.
Girls cross country
Rock Falls 3rd in Aurora: Paige Davis placed eighth in 18:22 to lead the Rockets to third in the Aurora Central Catholic Invite at Oakhurst Forest Preserve.
Rock Falls scored 67 points. Montini won (34).
Oregon fifth in ‘Bago: Led by Shelby Hunter’s sixth-place finish, the Hawks took fifth in the Roger Schmidt Invitational.
Hunter ran the 3,200-meter course in 12:40, 16 seconds behind winner Deirdre Coyle of Boylan (12:24). Boylan also won the team title, scoring 46 points. Oregon finished with 127 points.
Newman sophomore Halie Simpson was 10th in 12:48.
Amboy 5th at Kewanee: The Clippers scored 124 points in the 14-team Boiler Invitational, one of six teams to field a full team. Hall won with 39 points.
Jennifer Popovich led Amboy with a sixth-place finish, running the 3.02-mile course in 21:21.5. Midwest Central’s Cassie Mundekis won in 19:21.2.
BV 16th at St. Joe-Ogden: Regan Weidner placed seventh indivudually at the 24-team Spartan Classic, as the Storm scored 419 points.
Weidner had a time of 11:41.945 in the 1.98-mile race, nearly 23 seconds behind winner Ivy Handley of St. Teresa (11:19.098). St. Teresa also won the team title (35 points).
