Vaccination clinics to start Tuesday

MORRISON – Whiteside County Health Department staff will give flu shots during October at several county sites. All sessions are walk-in.

■ 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Parish Hall, 820 Fifth St., Erie; Oct. 9 at Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morris St., Morrison; and Oct. 25 at United Methodist Church, 200 W. Second St., Prophetstown.

■ 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Fulton fire station, 1800 16th Ave.

■ Flu shots also are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the department’s Rock Falls clinic, 1300 W. Second St. Vaccinations will be given until the supply is gone.

The pneumococcal vaccine will be available for $65 to those 2 and older. Flu shots will cost $20. The costs will be billed to Medicare Part B and Medicaid for those who bring the appropriate card. Railroad Medicare will not be accepted.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
