ROCK FALLS – Kenneth “Deputy Dawg” Mitchem, 66, of Rock Falls, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Born June 26, 1946, in Giatto, W.Va., he was a son of Terry L. and Clara M. (White) Mitchem. He was united in marriage to Helen Zinke on Dec. 31, 1971, in Rock Falls. Ken worked at Northwestern Steel & Wire Co. as a recorder for 31 years until retiring in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, cooking, Bible study and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Rock Falls; a daughter Tammy (Mark) Naftzger of Rock Falls; a son-in-law, Mike Thomas of Rock Falls; and two grandchildren, Cody Mitchem and Audrey Crossland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Macie Thomas; two sisters, Beatrice Mitchem and Macie Dooley, and three brothers, Emmitt, Carl and Jimmy Mitchem.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor of Harvest Time Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

A memorial has been established.
