Defibrillator grant money available

SPRINGFIELD – Applications will be accepted through Oct. 12 for a share of $100,000 in grant money for automated external defibrillators.

Eligible groups are schools, public park districts, municipal recreation departments, conservation districts, forest preserve districts, colleges and universities.

Applicants must be able to show that they can pay 50 percent of the cost for the AED.

The award per applicant is $458.62. All AEDs purchased between July 1 and June 30, 2013, will qualify for the grant. Money will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
