Runner returns to honor fallen soldiers

People to welcome former soldier at Reagan Boyhood Home

DIXON – Every day for more than 2 months, Rock Falls native Mike Ehredt will run a marathon.

His journey, which will take him from Minnesota to Texas, is in honor of fallen soldiers from the war in Afghanistan. Every mile, he stops to plant a flag inscribed with the name, age, rank and hometown of a soldier.

Two years ago, Ehredt, a retired postal clerk and Army veteran now of Hope, Idaho, honored those who served in Iraq by running 4,515 miles, from Oregon to Maine. This time, to honor fallen soldiers from the war in Afghanistan, he’s running from Minnesota to Texas.
