Community makes reunion a pleasant time

I had the task of organizing the Sterling High School Class of 1967 reunion, along with several friends. This community was extremely helpful and generous, making the job more manageable.

The Sterling Schools Foundation keeps records on the whereabouts of alumni, offers copying and mailing services, and allows individual classes to have accounts for their funds. It also provides high school tours.

Several local businesses also contributed to the success of the event. Candlelight Inn of Sterling opened its banquet room for us on Friday night after the game. Gift certificates were donated to be used as prizes from the following Sauk Valley area businesses: Blue Goose Run, Broadway Express Liquors, Candlelight Inn, Cynergy Styling Salon, Kelly’s, Long Shot, Octopus Car Wash and Sow Belly’s.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
