Alvin Messer

MOUNT MORRIS – Alvin Messer, 92, of Mount Morris, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Oregon Healthcare Center. He was an assistant pressman at Kable Printing Co. and a night watchman at White Pines State Park, retiring in 1986.

Alvin was born June 29, 1920, in Pine Creek Township, Ogle County, the son of Lawson Bryan and Ida (Chambers) Messer. He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 in the 45th Division. Alvin married Jean M. Pontius on March 9, 1946, in Freeport.

Survivors include his wife of Mount Morris; son, Edward (Kimberlee) Messer of Mount Morris; two daughters, Doris “Sandy” Doeden of Polo and Suzanne (Tim) Kinmon of Sterling; eight grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Messer of Rockford; and neighbors.
