Academy features guest artists

STERLING – Guest artists recently taught guitar classes and dance lessons at Woodlawn Arts Academy.

Dancer April Shipp, who helped instruct the summer dance intensive, taught workshops in hip hop and modern dance for students 10 to 18. Shipp has worked with accredited choreographers and artists such as Beyonce.

Gerry Joe Weise taught a guitar master class. Weise, a blues rock guitarist from Australia, dissected a standard blues number to demonstrate various scales, techniques and colorations.

Other news from Woodlawn includes:

■ The academy’s website, www.woodlawnartsacademy.com has been redesigned.

■ Yoga classes for ages 16 and older run from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9;30 to 10:45 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays and 6:45 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Restorative yoga is from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays The cost is $10 per class or $90 for a 10-class punch card. All levels are welcome. Props will be provided.

Students do not need to register for an entire session.
