Sheriff: Rockford motorcyclist killed in crash had been drinking

GERMAN VALLEY – A Rockford man who died Saturday in a motorcycle crash in Ogle County was drunk when he failed to negotiate a curve, Sheriff Michael Harn said Monday.

Lanny L. Kite, 41, was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The accident happened around 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of West Coffman and North Rock City roads, 2 and a half miles south of German Valley.

“His blood alcohol was more than twice the legal limit,” Harn said.

Kite was southbound on North Rock City Road and missed the curve at West Coffman Road, Harn said. He drove off the road and through the ditch before coming to rest on West Coffman. He was not wearing a helmet.

The accident is under investigation.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
