Sheley asks judge to dismiss murder case
Says his right to speedy trial has been violated
MORRISON – Convicted murderer Nicholas T. Sheley wants his first Whiteside County murder case thrown out, saying his right to a speedy trial has been violated.
The motion comes more than a month before the 33-year-old Sterling man is set to go to trial in the death of Russell Reed, 93, of rural Sterling.
In a 10-page handwritten motion, Sheley asks presiding Judge F. Michael Meersman to “undergo an extensive and thoroughly detailed analysis” of several motions and pretrial hearings since the case began last year.
