STERLING – Maria Gonzalez is waiting for the call that will tell her the date she will take an English and American history test.
That is not just any test. A passing score will mean Gonzalez can officially call herself an American citizen.
Gonzalez, 45, moved to Sterling 19 years ago from Mexico, where she was born. When she heard from a friend about the citizenship services offered through Sauk Valley Community College, she decided to learn more.
