Michael J. Sleeper
MAGNOLIA, Texas – Michael J. Sleeper, 65, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away Sunday, Aug 26, 2012, at his home, from complications of lung cancer. He was an officer on a Merchant Marine ship for the past 25 years, where he widely traveled the world from horizon to horizon.
Mike was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Sterling, the son of Jerome and Geraldine (Curran) Sleeper. He graduated from Newman Central Catholic High School, class of 1965, and Maritime Academy of Navigation, Dania, Fla. He served in the Navy and spent two tours of duty on a destroyer during the Vietnam War. He then spent several years commercial clamming in the Kentucky area before moving to Texas to continue his career on a Merchant Marine ship.
Mike was an avid golfer and reader, and his wonderful wisdom and wit will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
