Wheels on the bus might have to stop turning
The golden age of school bus transportation may have come and gone. Significant cuts by a cash-strapped state government and local economic realities do not bode well for keeping school buses on the road.
The wheels on the bus go round and round, but the wheels on some school buses might be one step closer to stopping for good.
Illinois’ continuing financial crisis has put a stranglehold on the state’s purse strings, and local schools have less and less money to spend on transportation costs.
Area school officials surveyed for a recent Sauk Valley Media story said the state is thousands of dollars behind in paying transportation reimbursement costs.
