William G. ‘Bill’ Clayton
POLO – William G. “Bill” Clayton, 72, of Polo, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. He was a surveyor for the Lee County Highway Department for 32 years, and the Illinois Highway Department in Dixon for 8 years.
Bill was born Jan. 8, 1940, in Oregon, the son of Leslie and Ruth (Hanson) Clayton. He was united in marriage to Shirley Jeannie Scott on April 9, 1961, in Polo.
Bill was an avid Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Mystic Tie Lodge 187 in Polo, Freeport Consistory Lodge and Tebala Shrine in Rockford. He was a charter member of Polo Jaycees and a member of Polo Snow Rangers.
