Landfills taking in Chicago’s garbage
Waste totals decreased in local dumps in 2011
DIXON – Chicagoland creates most of the state’s garbage, and rural northwestern Illinois gets much of it.
The majority of waste going into the landfills in Whiteside and Lee counties comes from outside the area, mainly from Chicago suburbs, officials confirm.
But the amount of trash has dipped in recent years, mainly because of the sluggish economy.
