No apologies necessary
Jon Schlemmer was doing an awful lot of apologizing for a guy who’s 2-0 to start his coaching career.
After the game, he readily took the blame for Sterling’s missed tackles and inability to get off the field more quickly. He promised his guys, “It’s my fault. We need to be in better shape. I’ll get you there, starting Monday,” as the team broke down on the new FieldTurf at Roscoe Eades Stadium.
Fact is, Schlemmer’s already won me over in a very important way. He’s got a disciplined football team. Some of that comes down to the personnel he has. For instance, Tanner Morse flat-out doesn’t make mistakes. Even his 13-yard loss Friday night was a heads-up play.
