Helen R. Walter

ROCK FALLS – Helen R. Walter, 95, of Rock Falls and Sterling, most recently of Chesterfield, Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Brandermill Woods, Holly Inn, Midlothian, Va. 

She was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of John and Mary (McNamara) McSweeny. She married Leonard Walter on Sept. 20, 1947. He died in 2005 at age 90. She spent most of her adult life in Rock Falls, where she and Leonard raised seven children on their farm on County Line Road. In their later years, they were residents of Coventry Village in Sterling. After the death of her husband, Helen moved to Chesterfield to live with her daughter, Jeanne. Most recently, she was a resident of Brandermill Woods Assisted Living in Midlothian.

She had a full life, and was known for her quick wit and care and compassion for others. She was a good friend to many, and valued her roles as a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother in life. She was forever proud of her Irish roots.
